Cosmetic ingredients are put to the test

Producers of care and decorative cosmetics, please take note that many changes were announced for the Cosmetics Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009) for 2022. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) is currently working on the re-evaluation of some cosmetic ingredients, such as butylhydroxytoluene, prostaglandin and analogues, and aluminium.

WESSLING provides advice on implementing the German cosmetics regulations with respect to decorative cosmetics.

Changes already made include the expansion of regulated fragrances from 25 to 87 individual substances, and the lowering of the threshold value for total free formaldehyde to 0.001%. These changes will come into force in 2022.

We will be happy to keep you informed about the specific changes to the Cosmetics Regulation and their transition periods.
