Sustainability has become a topic of widespread interest and is changing the market. Targeted sustainability management is therefore required to meet the growing demand for greater transparency.

The International Featured Standard (IFS), one of the globally recognised standard setters, has addressed the sustainability management of companies. It bundled the findings from the areas of environment, social affairs, and corporate governance in the form of a new standard, the so-called ESG Check. This consists of a basic module and an optional carbon footprint module. There are a total of 17 requirements that are checked for compliance in an audit. In addition, the company must carry out a self-assessment in advance. This includes a list of mandatory questions relating to the content of the module requirements.

The ESG Check and optional modules can be used to establish, expand and/or restructure sustainability management in companies of different sizes and from different sectors.

The desire to achieve savings is making some companies reluctant to be proactive on sustainability. However, our experts advise companies to keep pace with current developments and face up to the challenges associated with improving their own sustainability performance. In addition to the workload, which is generally seen as a barrier, there are several advantages: the intensive examination of the topic creates a clear presentation of successes and at the same time offers stakeholders a high degree of transparency. This enables concrete action plans to be implemented and builds trust. In addition, resource-saving changes can deliver long-term cost savings and make a significant contribution to environmental protection.
