Hazardous Substances and Remediation

Whether building moisture, hazardous substances analysis and remediation, the quality of indoor air, or energy rehabilitation is concerned.

Workers at a building renovation

WESSLING is there to assist developers, planners, public authorities, the remediation industry and tradespeople as a trusted advisor for construction and remediation work in existing buildings.

Hazardous building substances, often known as “household toxins” in public discussions, are detrimental to users’ health and can reduce the value of a building. Our experts determine the numerous contaminating effects of hazardous building substances, plan and supervise remediation measures, e.g. for asbestos, wood preservatives and synthetic mineral fibres (SMF).

Our teams know the particularities of remediating PCB-contaminated sealants and other sources. Additionally, the specific treatment of damage by moulds, dry rot, particulate matter or pests is no problem for them either.

Consulting and the assessment and measurement of hazardous building substances

We advise you proactively by helping you develop guidelines for your building project or remediation work. Our experts analyse the problematic situation, assess the potential risks and determine countermeasures. We plan, supervise and document remediation jobs and help with certification.

Our services:

  • Surveying and assessing hazardous building substances
  • Planning and supporting remediation measures
  • In-house training sessions on hazardous building substances
  • Sampling (e.g. material, indoor air) and analysis of hazardous building substances such as volatile organic compounds (VOC), very volatile compounds such as formaldehyde and semi-volatile compounds such as phthalates and PAHs from tar products, heavy metals and their organic compounds such as TBTs (tributyltin compounds), mercury and lead, organochlorine biocides such as PCP, lindane, DDT and dioxins

Detecting penetration paths of radon

Radon in construction land and buildings

Radon (Rn-222) is a naturally occurring radioactive noble gas that is formed in the ground from the radioactive decay of rocks containing uranium. It can penetrate buildings through leaks. The amendment to the Radiation Protection Act of 31 December 2018 provides for measurements and, if necessary, protective measures for workplaces and recreation rooms. WESSLING uses active measuring devices to search for the penetration paths of radon.
