Analysis of dichlorobenzenes in foam materials

Foams for upholstery materials, mattresses and similar products usually consist of polyurethanes. These polyurethanes may also contain residues of isocyanates. Dichlorobenzene is one of the inert solvents used in the production of isocyanates. For safe materials and furnishings, it is advisable to examine the emissions of these volatile compounds using test chambers.

Our experts at WESSLING test foams for furniture manufacturers with regard to the emission of dichlorobenzene according to the accredited* test chamber method DIN EN ISO 16000-9 and by means of DIN ISO 16000-6, the so-called Tenax® analysis.

WESSLING is listed by DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik) as an expert testing laboratory and by BAM (Bundesamt für Materialprüfung) for emission chamber testing of construction products. In addition, WESSLING is also listed by RAL, the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labelling, for the UZ-117 (upholstered furniture) and UZ-119 (mattresses).

Furthermore, it is also possible to analyse foam materials, directly, during material analysis. This analysis is conducted with gas chromatography (GC-MS), and after extraction of the test samples, coupled with mass spectrometry.

Testing laboratory accredited by DAkkS according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. The accreditation only applies to the scope of accreditation listed in the certificate attachment [D-PL-14162-01-00].
